The project is the construction of a tourist villa above the bay of Plakias in Rethymno, Crete. The house is developed in three levels, taking advantage of the gentle slope of the plot and the main orientation of the bay of Plakias. Each level consists of a bedroom with its own bathroom, while on the middle level there is also a living room, a kitchen and a swimming pool.
The large openings of the bedrooms and the movement areas are positioned so that visual contact with the disarming view is possible. The swimming pool, the pergola and the corner glass of the living room help in the smooth transition from inside to outside and vice versa, while at the same time they complete the simple oncoplasty of the building.
The decoration inside and outside the building was based on the removal of unnecessary elements that distract the visitor from the visual contact with the amazing view of the Libyan Sea. Simple lines and strong elements were chosen inspired by the simple and at the same time wild landscape of southern Crete.
The materials used are natural stones, walnut wood and Cretan cypress, in combination with modern applications such as pressed cement mortars. The frames were chosen in dark colour to connect with the landscape. The colour palette copies the natural landscape in shades of beige, gray and anthracite, that we find in the rocks of the area, while terracotta touches were chosen -colour of the history of the island.
The interior layout of the rooms was again guided by the fact that there is contact at every point with the view, and for this reason open bathrooms with the shower online with the sea view were chosen. The outdoor area around the pool, as well as the colours of the building, remained simple, with the arrangement of the necessary elements (dining table, sunbeds, umbrellas) not to disturb the view and finally the visitor to experience calm and slow-life -something that is missing from his daily life.
