The hotel was built in 1973 and has been in operation since 1976; it is located within the gulf of Porto Heli, right next to the waterfront. There are extended gardens, large communal areas and five guest room stories of 404 rooms in total.
In 1988 minor room renovations took place and in 1999 the communal areas were refurbished but since then no other works were carried out; thus the overall hotel image was neglected.
In 2019 the elevations were renovated, where all old timber railing were replaced with free standing glass system in order to take advantage of the view. All external door frames were replaced to thermally broken systems reducing the thermal heat load, and new floor/roof insulations were installed also with new tiling.
Communal areas were renovated to a great extent, floor finishes and ceilings were removed to be replaced by new, light fittings, glass movable panels and doors were all replaced. In the main lobby a sky light was added where beneath it an internal garden was created along with a water feature pond, adding light and atmosphere to the hotel; this is where some offices were initially located and were relocated. The reception lobby and main lobby were separated by a stone wall, but by removing a part of this wall the two spaces were unified and the 60m length of the ground floor was revealed.
A circulation axis was designed from the entrance to the very end of the bar area. A vivid turquoise painted low height wall separates the lobby and the circulation area, where on its side one finds small shops and an interesting exhibition space of Greek fishing boats, kaikia, collected many years back by the owner. The main lobby and bar have ample views towards the swimming pools and the gardens as well as the sea.
The existing bar location was retained but its size changed and now has a double serving ability both to the interior of the space but also externally toward the pools.
At the lower level is the restaurant, totally revamped with a new entrance point, new buffets, different table layout and diner corner. Its main change though, was that the circulation paths of the guests and staff no longer clash and its function is well clear.
The restaurant on the lower level and the lobby on the upper level were connected via a void, as this was creating acoustic and kitchen odor smell issues, it was blocked off and another smaller interior garden was designed, creating a green line between the two interior gardens.
Many of the existing 70s furniture were kept and were repainted, new and stylish fabrics were used, and along with some new key furniture that were purchased, a summery and fresh feel changed the whole space.
The room corridors and the guest rooms were fully renovated. New electricals were installed, new false ceilings, all old rough rendered walls were smoothed out, placing the hotel in its era.
Bathrooms were changed and enlarged since all bathtubs were removed and marble-like wall finishes installed to give a light and bright feel. Overall, the guest rooms image completely changed by using earthy colors in finishes and fabrics, and the simplicity of the space was revealed; the view to the sea from every room is uninterrupted and unique, adding to the rooms pleasant experience.
