A five-storey building at Ano Petralona that used to be a small industry, is now transformed to a housing complex, becoming a new housing model for the neighborhood. The last storey is converted to a modern penthouse of 70sqm with luminous spaces and views towards Attica’s western areas.
Last floor’s volume is located on the top of the building and has a smaller layout. It is characteristically defined by its wooden roof, and is opened to the large veranda and the flower boxes outside the windows. These large windows are a reminiscent of the industrial façade and at the living room they are transformed to floor to ceiling window frames that connect the interior spaces with the exterior.
In the interior, wooden panels in combination with lacquered cladding create a folding surface that separates the private areas of the apartment, while the roof and concrete elements of the structure become prominent features of the design. Walls, floor and roof are colored in a whitish palette and selected pastel surfaces together with materials’ texture are significantly emphasized.
The house equipment and the decorative objects chosen for the household consist of elements that refer to the cultural heritage of Athens. Woven textiles and home furnishings from 50s and 60s are combined with modern colorful ceramic design objects and custom -made furniture with marble detailing. Lights have plain shapes and clean-cut lines in whitish colors so as to be fully harmonized with the shell and let the lighting change space’s qualities.
