The Avra City Boutique Hotel is a historical building located in Chania city, featuring neoclassical architecture and modern amenities. The hotel’s design prioritizes preserving the original structure while updating it, to meet high tourist standards. With 27 guest rooms spread over five floors, the interior design incorporates luxury and neoclassical elements, such as wooden furniture, earthy fabrics, and marble accents, while the exterior facades are illuminated to highlight their architectural features.
The Avra City Boutique Hotel is housed in a historical building of the 20th century, situated in the heart of Chania city. It is conveniently positioned adjacent to the Municipal Garden, with its main facade on Tzanakaki Street. The main principal of the design was to preserve and enhance the existing structure while modernizing it to meet the high standards expected of a toptier tourist accommodation.
The building comprises of a ground floor, where the reception area is located, followed by the bar, restaurant and conference room. Additionally, there are five floors that accommodate a total of 27 rooms for guests. These accommodation rooms are located in an extension of the original building, carefully designed to maintain and amplify the historical charm of the structure.
Completing the ensemble is an inner backyard, providing a serene space within the hotel. The defining feature of the original building is the neoclassical architecture style, which was meticulously maintained and accentuated during the design process. Both the exterior facades and interior details were approached with the aim of preserving its classical character.
To enhance the building’s charm, the existing color palette was retained while introducing new shades that harmonize with the neoclassical style. Moreover, the facades were meticulously illuminated to enhance their architectural features, following a thorough lighting study. The interior design of the guest rooms reflects the luxury of the neoclassical architecture, incorporating its distinctive characteristics into the design elements. To maintain this character, minimal modifications were made to the reception area, focusing primarily on the ceiling to align with the lighting study, ensuring proper diffusion of light and accentuation of the space.
Similar attention to detail was given to the private areas of the hotel. Specifically designed furniture features wooden elements, complemented by earthy fabrics for headboards or marble accents for the furniture of dressing table, storage, and mirror in the private spaces.
The final touches on the space were given by the art pieces were chosen which adorn the spaces, mainly the ground floor, and at the same time introduce the eclectic atmosphere inside.
