In Mani, near the village of Areopoli, in the location Paleohora, the Boutique 4 Star Hotel Complex BASSA MAINA Villas & Suites was built on a 21.7 acres plot and has a capacity of 30 beds, a restaurant, a bar, a conference center, a business center and a gym. The aim was to create luxurious accommodations in an environment harmoniously integrated into the Mani landscape.
The nine independent, luxurious villas and suites are arranged amphitheatrically on the north-south axis and provide plenty of natural light and unobstructed views of sea and sunset.
Access to the villas is from the east side, where a threaded cobbled path runs along the complex and leads to the communal outdoor area.
The configuration of the independent entrances and the relationship between the individual buildings ensures the privacy of each villa. They all have outdoor private space, both in the east and in the west.
Each villa or suite has a different layout and unique décor, while most of them have a fireplace and heated outdoor Jacuzzi, integrated into the private outdoor area.
The main building is dominant by both its size and its location on a prominent plot spot. It consists of 2 levels and a basement. On the ground floor there is a reception area, a bar and a restaurant. The space is open with predominant materials the local stone and the chestnut timber. The separation of the different functions is made distinctively with the formation of the space, sometimes with elevation of the floor and sometimes with a reduction of the large internal height.
A stone staircase leads to an interior open balcony and the Lounge. The transparent glass parapet is perfectly in harmony with the predominant materials, stone and chestnut timber, and leaves the plasticity of the construction unaffected.
An illuminating glass pyramid on the Lounge's ceiling ensures a particularly pleasant natural light while at the same time, staying below the perimeter parapet of the roof, it is not visible from the outside.
The basement houses the kitchen, storage areas, HM premises, business center and a multi-purpose room with state-of-the-art equipment.
The communal outdoor space, in front of the main building, is staggered, fluctuating in width, following the natural slope of the ground. In addition, a lightly covered wooded area, painted in white tones (pergola), in direct connection with the shady functions (bar, restaurant), ensures shade in the summer.
The materials used, apart from the dominant, local stone, oak and chestnut timber, are modern, such as granite and pressed cement mortars.
Both inside and outside walls were made of stone. Wooden frames were placed in white. The bathrooms were made of granite flooring, cement mortars, modern sanitary ware and oak furniture. The roofs are wooden painted in white tones, covered by Byzantine tiles placed the traditional way. The gates were constructed in a traditional chestnut wood pattern. The traffic areas were made of local stone, while for the open public areas a pressed cement mortar was used.
The architectural elements, the proportions of the buildings and the openings, as well as the finishing materials, are in harmony with the traditional architecture of the area.
Car parks were located on the eastern side of the complex.
For planting around the complex were selected plants and trees of the area.
