The area where the building is situated comprises of several buildings built during the 1950s, while many were built in the 1970s each with the corresponding architectural characteristics. Additionally the plot is in direct contact with the harbour and the beach of "Nea Chora" in Chania as well as with the new pedestrian seafront street which has recently been constructed and constitutes the continuance of the Old Town seafront street of Chania. Externally the study of the building's aesthetics was focused on its smooth architectural interaction among the surrounding structures by using corresponding materials and colors, while at the same time its purpose was to elevate the city's image on that area. This was accomplished with the oncoplastic remodeling of the building's front and the use of specific materials in the coating and the architectural components.
The whole remodeling took 24 months (2020-2021) and it was concluded on January 2021. The total cost was 2.500.000 Euros. The architectural study which was prepared in 5 months from the architectural office Emmanouil Segkos models the building as follows: The commune spaces are located in the ground floor with the reception desk, the lobby and the bar. The guests' rooms are located on the 1st till the 4th floor. On the 5th floor are the indoor pool, gym, sitting area and the restaurant. At a lower level from the reception are a small massage and beauty lounge as well as auxiliary and functional spaces. Further along in the basement, we have situated the central restaurant and the breakfast hall. It is accessed from the lobby via an independent staircase and its lighting is boosted by natural light with ceiling openings. Over the ceiling from the outside, the garden of the hotel is located.
The general style of the internal design is in accordance with the company's Identity and the clientele it attracts. Our intention is to easily project the function of each area. The internal design of the common areas comes as a continuation of the external one with the use of similar materials and the abundance of clear openings in the entirety of the reception area, not only from the direction of the entrance but also towards the direction of the interior garden of the hotel. The hotel rooms are divided into two aesthetic categories. Firstly, the dominant type tries to approach a more strict character of a room used throughout the year, of a city hotel with slightly stern furnishing, colors and fabrics. The second type consists of more summer like rooms, with a Mediterranean character which responds mainly but not exclusively to a younger clientele.
Besides the functional and aesthetic improvements, the building was equipped with innovated energy production systems like a geothermal pump for the central air conditioning and the use of photovoltaic systems for the lighting of the common areas. All these in combination with the energy saving upscaling study of the infrastructure, we have achieved the utmost efficiency of ventilation, climate control and illumination of our spaces in regards to energy consumption.
